The People of Color Community Group gathers to explore our spiritual path through meditation and the teachings of the Buddha, honoring our shared experience, while cultivating mindfulness, wisdom, and joy in our community. Ruth King is a teacher in the Insight Meditation Tradition and an Emotional Wisdom author and life coach. She is a guiding teacher at Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC, and the founder of Mindful Members Insight Meditation Community in Charlotte, NC.
In former years, King managed training and organizational development divisions at Levi Strauss and Intel corporations where she coached leaders on transformative leadership, workplace trauma, and diversity awareness. Currently recognized as a mindful mentor, trainer of trainers, and consultant to consultants, King works with teams to foster environments of genuine inclusion, emotional well-being, and mindful leadership.
A world traveler, King has been influenced by the cultures of China, the Philippines, Europe, Cuba, Brazil, Scandinavia, and India, and for several years, she led cross-cultural awareness tours to Egypt, Ghana, Senegal, and South Africa.
King has a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, CA (1992), where she also served as adjunct faculty in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology.
King, of African American heritage, Elder, great grandmother, and native Californian, living over 25 years in the Bay Area, currently resides in Charlotte, NC, with her life partner, Dr. Barbara Riley, and cat, Mr. Socks.
